Biography
Charles R. “Bob” Collins, age 87, of Auburndale, Florida and formerly of Napoleon, Ohio, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, in Winter Haven, Florida.
Born April 19, 1922 in Fairmont, West Virginia, the son of John and Alice (Duskey) Collins. He was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Kelly and she preceded him in death on September 27, 1986. On April 2, 1993 he married Marian (Hadsell) Hershey, who survives.
Bob was a construction superintendent for the Wren Reese, Inc. of Napoleon, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a WW II Navy veteran. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion, both of Napoleon, Ohio.
Surviving also is one son Robert (Marcy) Collins, Bowling Green, Ohio; one daughter Dorothy (Thomas) Christensen, Napoleon, Ohio; step children Daryl (Laura) Hershey, Keith (Jan) Hershey, Tina (Ron) Lange, Michelle LaPointe, Stephanie Buckley, all of Florida; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 daughter Cheryl Birtcher and 2 grandsons Rick and David Birtcher.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, Ohio, Father Dan Borgelt, celebrant. Entombment will be made in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, Ohio, where with military honors will be accorded.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
